Why I Do What I Do
The answer is simple - my kids! They’re the inspiration behind both of my businesses, and here’s how it happened.
In 2015 when I was 8 months pregnant with my first born, I got laid off my e-commerce job at a startup. The business was failing and the employees were no longer sustainable. I took my previous Art Center knowledge and professional expertise to overcome my fear of starting my own business. I knew no one was going to hire me right in time to give me maternity leave, so I used my love for the wedding industry to start my own invitation design company, Cordially. With no clients to start with, I made up my own events, mocked up some invitations, printed and photographed them for my Instagram page. As my business slowly grew, so did my confidence! I was able to stay at home with my son and run my own business. About 3 and half years later I decided to return back to the workforce in order to be surrounded by a creative team. While maintaining my business, I was loving my new job and about a year and a half later I got pregnant with my daughter. It seemed liked dejavu when again about 8 months pregnant I had to leave work, but this time because of the pandemic. Schools were closing and my maternity leave was beginning so I took it day by day until I was set to go back to work. I contacted my employer about transitioning back and they gave me the sad news that my position, along with many others, had to be terminated and that I would not be returning upon the completion of my leave. As my son had inspired Cordially, my daughter inspired Skye Creative - named after her middle name. Branding can make or break a business and I love using my expertise to contribute to different communities. Now more than ever people need to create an opportunity to make a “come back” after being hit with the business losses of the pandemic. I am honored to have services that could assist them in doing so, and hopefully make a drastic difference in their lives.
